The Motley Cow is pleased to host this year’s “New Work” literary event for the Mission Creek Festival featuring Mike Doughty, Lindsay Hunter and Jason Lewis.
The reading will take place this Thursday, March 29th from 5-6 pm. Come down, enjoy some light snacks & cheap (but good!) beer. (Our full bar will also be available.)
Here are the details:
“Thursdays during Mission Creek continue to feature the signature “New Work” reading which pairs published authors and writer-musicians reading from recent, unpublished material. In 2012, songwriter and musician Mike Doughty (from Soul Coughing) will be paired with a writer who will be named in the next release. Doughty published his memoir, The Book of Drugs (De Capo Press), earlier this year. Lindsay Hunter is a writer living in Chicago. Her collection of slim fictions, “Daddy’s,” is out on featherproof books. Jason T. Lewis’ novel, The Fourteenth Colony (2011), was published with a companion album of songs written by and recorded by Jason. A singer, songwriter, and producer for nearly 25 years, Jason has released four albums of original material, first with his group Star City, and most recently with Sad Iron Music. Jason is the director of the Writing and Humanities Program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, managing editor of The Examined Life: A Literary Journal of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, and co-director of the recently formed Humanities Distinction Track at the same institution.”

Chef David Wieseneck will be one of four featured chefs for the Mission Creek Brunch on Sunday, April 1st. The brunch will be held at the Mill Restaurant, starting at 11 am with beignets & mimosas and family-style brunch served at 12 pm. Tickets are $25 and are available at the Mill & midwesttix.com.

The chefs of Augusta, Chef’s Table, Devotay & The Motley Cow are pleased to present a robust spread including:

Smoked fish “Benedict” & braised greens

Cesar Salad

Crawfish Etoufee

Pork Grillades and grits

Bread Pudding with whiskey caramel sauce

Don’t miss out on this great event! Get your tickets today!

We are proud to feature new art in the restaurant by Jamie Hudrlik, showing through May 2012.
On April 14th from 4-6 pm there will be a reception for the show at the Cow. Stop by for a glass of wine & a snack and enjoy the work!
Jamie’s bio:
“I recieved my BFA in painting at Columbia College in Chicago in 2004. In 2007, I moved back to my hometown, Iowa City, to study organic farming. “Wonder Land” is my newest body of work. These paintings are a personal and poetic exploration about growing up and letting go. Gardening has become a significant source of inspiration for my artwork. It wasn’t something I planned, it happened organically. When I garden, I am able to escape and create my own physical Wonder Land. I get lost within the fantastical flowers and messy black dirt. Gardening is a way for me to escape the everyday world and at the same time, it helps me understand the process of life.”
